Before you choose from this week's menu, take a moment to locate yourself in your cycle. We aim to work with your body's intelligence rather than against it.

🌑 Menstruation: Days 1–5 The Winter. The New Moon within.
Creativity during menstruation rarely looks like making, it’s more like dreaming. The images, ideas, and creative seeds that arrive during bleeding are often the most original of the entire cycle precisely because the usual filters are down. The inner critic is tired. The defenses are resting. What surfaces during menstrual quiet is often raw, strange, and more true than what the rested, productive mind generates. The invitation during this phase is not to make but to receive, to notice, to write one word, one image, one fragment down before it dissolves.
This phase and the Creativity menu:
➕ Add: morning pages or uncensored writing - three pages of longhand without rereading - is especially powerful during menstruation because the usual internal editor is already quieter than at any other phase. What comes out onto the page during bleeding days is often surprising. Let it :)
➖ Remove: waiting for inspiration before beginning matters less here because menstruation already delivers inspiration unbidden. The practice during this phase is actually the reverse - catching what arrives, before the cycle turns and the analytical mind returns to edit it away.
🌀 Deepen: the seven-day creative practice log begun during menstruation captures the phase most people forget - the dreaming, the imagining, the fragments. By the end of the week you will have documented your menstrual visions and whatever phase arrives next.
Journaling prompt for this phase: What images, ideas, or creative fragments have been arriving in my quiet this week that I haven't yet written down?
General recommendations: Do not try to produce during menstruation. Receive instead. Keep a small notebook by your bed and by wherever you tend to sit in stillness. The creative gifts of this phase are not in the finished thing but in the seed. Your only job is to catch the seeds before they blow away.
🌒 Follicular: Days 6–13The Spring. The Waxing Moon within.
Follicular is the most naturally creative phase of the cycle in the conventional sense - energy is rising, the mind is clear and curious, and the relationship between idea and action is more fluid than at any other time. If menstruation is the dreaming phase of creativity, follicular is the beginning phase. What was seeded in the quiet now wants to take a first form. The inner critic is not absent, but it is less loud than usual. This is the window to begin things.
This phase and the Creativity menu:
➕ Add: learning one small creative skill you have always been curious about lands beautifully in follicular. Curiosity is at its monthly peak and the willingness to be a genuine beginner - awkward, slow, learning from scratch - is most available now. Begin the thing.
➖ Remove: waiting for inspiration before beginning is most important to address in follicular specifically, because the energy is already here. What is usually missing is not inspiration but permission. Give yourself permission this week to begin without waiting for the feeling.
🌀 Deepen: a weekly artist date with yourself - a solo outing to feed your creative self - is most sustainable and most enjoyable when taken during follicular. Energy is available, solitude feels spacious rather than isolating, and the well fills most easily when you are already resourced.
Journaling prompt for this phase: What creative project, however small, has been waiting for me to begin it? What is one step I could take toward it today?
General recommendations: Initiate in follicular. The seeds from menstruation are ready to be planted. Give at least one of them a first form this week - a first sentence, a first sketch, a first experiment. Let it be a start of something.
🌕 Ovulation — Days 14–16
The Summer. The Full Moon within.
Creativity during ovulation wants to be shared. The outward, connective, expressive quality of this phase naturally orients toward an audience - even an audience of one. This is the phase where making something and offering it feels most natural, least frightening, and most alive. The vulnerability of showing creative work is genuinely lower right now. Use that.
This phase and the Creativity menu:
➕ Add: a creativity altar or dedicated creative space suits ovulation's desire to bring the inner world into the outer one visibly. This phase's energy wants to arrange, display, and make things external and beautiful. Let your physical space reflect your creative life right now.
➖ Remove: the inner critic's first word is most worth releasing during ovulation because this phase genuinely has less of it. You are more open, less defended, and more willing to let what you make be seen. Establish the 24-hour no-evaluation rule this week and notice how much more you make when the judge goes quiet.
🌀 Deepen: share something you have made this week in the group - a photo, a line, a voice note, anything - and do it during ovulation if you can, because this phase makes the act of offering feel more natural than any other. Let your inner world be witnessed.
Journaling prompt for this phase: What have I made, noticed, or imagined this week that I haven't yet shared with anyone? What would it feel like to offer it, even to one person?
General recommendations: Create for an audience of one this week - a friend, the group, or your future self. Ovulation's gift to creativity is the willingness to make the private visible. Use it.
🌘 Luteal — Days 17–28
The Autumn. The Waning Moon within.
Creativity in late luteal is the most underrated creative state of the entire cycle - and the most misunderstood. The inner critic is loudest here, yes. But the discernment underneath that critic is also sharpest. Late luteal is when you can see most clearly what is working and what isn't, what is true and what is performance, what has real life in it and what is being made for approval rather than from necessity. Less, but more real.
This phase and the Creativity menu:
➕ Add: making one thing with your hands that has no screen involved is most grounding during late luteal, when digital overstimulation amplifies the nervous system's already heightened state. Bread, a drawing, a simple arrangement of flowers, a letter written by hand. The hands working with physical material is regulating in a way that screen-based creativity rarely is during this phase.
➖ Remove: consuming creativity instead of making it is most worth addressing in late luteal specifically, because this phase's tendency toward passivity and low energy makes scrolling and watching the easiest possible default. Notice when the scroll is avoidance of something the body actually wants to make. Even five minutes of making is worth more than an hour of watching right now.
🌀 Deepen: finishing one imperfect thing - closing a creative loop that has been open suits late luteal perfectly. This phase's energy does not support beginning well, but it is excellent for completing, editing, and letting go. What has been waiting to be finished? Finish it this week. Let done be enough.
Journaling prompt for this phase: What creative thing have I been making "someday" that I could finish, or at least move one step closer to finishing, right now in the time and energy I actually have?
General recommendations: Lower the ambition and raise the honesty during late luteal. This is not the week for big creative leaps. It is the week for small, true things. One honest sentence is worth more than three polished paragraphs right now. One real mark on the page is worth more than an elaborate plan. Let creativity be stripped back to its simplest form - making something true with what you have. That is enough.
